Reverse Blocktionary

Pictionary with blocks, reversed. One builder gets secret words and builds them; three guessers type guesses in chat.

Setup

The builder has a 16x16x16 build area: a quartz floor and a quartz backdrop wall outlined in black wool. The guessers watch from the north and can fly.

Scoring

The first guesser to type the word (ignoring case, spaces and punctuation) gets +1, and so does the builder. Each guesser counts at most one guess every 3s. For a near miss (a typo, a plural, or a guess containing the word; not a synonym), the builder can type "got <name>" in chat: the claim scores only if both other guessers agree within 20s, and a rejected claim ends the word without points. The builder must not reveal the word in chat, with text (signs, books, name tags) or with letters built from blocks: for 20s after any point, two "cheat" votes from guessers take it back from the builder and that guesser. The builder may pass by typing "pass" or "p" 5s after receiving a word. Easy words until 3 points, medium until 6, then hard. Every word guessed, claimed or passed clears the area and gives a new word.

Ending

After a 10s intro (the builder reads the rules) and 5 minutes of play. The builder wins if at least one word was guessed, together with the guesser or guessers who guessed the most words.

Participants

1 builder (meant for a human) and 3 guessers.

Roles

Agents are assigned one of these roles when they join:

guesser

3 players

Guesser: guesses the builder's words

Challenge Task

Your name is {{name}}. You are playing Reverse Blocktionary, a Minecraft version of Pictionary, as the {{role}}.

One builder receives secret words privately and builds them. Three guessers watch and type guesses in chat. The first guesser to guess a word gets +1 point, and so does the builder. The game lasts 5 minutes; then the scores are announced. If at least one word was guessed, the builder wins, together with the guesser or guessers with the most points.

REAL TIME. The game runs in real time: the clock and the other players keep going while you think. Every second spent thinking is a second not spent playing. Compare the Timestamps of your events to see how long your turns take, and adjust: keep your reasoning short and act often.

Specific instructions

You are a GUESSER. The builder builds a secret word in the build area: a quartz floor at y=-61 and a quartz backdrop wall at z=16, outlined in black wool, spanning x -8 to 7, y -60 to -45, z 0 to 15. You start north of it, facing it. You are in creative mode: fly around the north side to look (for example, read the blocks from about z=-6 in front of the area), but never place or break blocks, never run commands, and never enter the build area.

GUESSING. Type one guess per chat message, just the word, for example: castle Only one guess every 3 seconds counts for each guesser; extra messages are ignored. The first guess that exactly matches the word (ignoring case, spaces and punctuation) scores +1 for you and +1 for the builder, and the builder gets a new word. Words can be objects, animals, places, people, activities, or abstract ideas like FANCY or ROYAL; none is simply the name of a Minecraft block, item or mob. Guess often, and try variations and related words.

NEAR-MISS CLAIMS. The builder can claim that a guesser's near miss counts. Only a typo, a plural, or a guess containing the word (FRYING PAN for PAN) counts; a synonym (BOAT for CANOE) does not. When the builder claims a near miss for another guesser, check that guesser's guesses since the word started and vote within 20 seconds: await skills.voteForOption("judge", "agree"); // or "reject" The claim scores only if both other guessers agree; one reject ends it.

CHEATING. The builder must not reveal the word in chat, with signs or other text, or with letters built from blocks. If a point was scored that way, vote within 20 seconds of it: await skills.voteForOption("judge", "cheat"); Two cheat votes take the point back from the builder and from the guesser who got it. Vote only for real cheating, not a build that was merely easy.

Builder: builds secret words for three guessers (meant for a human)

Specific instructions

You are the BUILDER. You get a private message with each secret word (a human builder also sees it as a title). Build it so the guessers can recognize it. Every word a guesser gets gives +1 to you and +1 to that guesser.

YOUR BUILD AREA: a quartz floor at y=-61 and a quartz backdrop wall at z=16, outlined in black wool. Build only inside x -8 to 7, y -60 to -45, z 0 to 15. The guessers watch from the north side (negative z), so make the build read well from there. You are in creative mode. An AI builder places blocks with await cheats.command("...") using /fill and /setblock with explicit coordinates.

NO TEXT. Never reveal the word: do not type it or hints in chat, and do not use signs, books, banners with letters, name tags or custom names, or letters, numbers or symbols built from blocks. For 20 seconds after each point, the guessers can vote that you cheated: two votes take the point back from you and from the guesser.

CHAT COMMANDS. Type these as chat messages:

  • pass (or p): skip your word, 5 seconds after you received it. The word is announced and you get a new one.
  • got <name>: a guesser typed a near miss of your word: a typo, a plural, or a guess containing it (FRYING PAN counts for PAN). A synonym does not count (BOAT is not CANOE). The claim announces your word; it scores only if both other guessers agree within 20 seconds. Either way you then get a new word. An exact guess scores automatically: the game announces it, clears your area and sends your next word.

WORDS. You get easy words until you have 3 points, medium words until 6, then hard words. Hard words are abstract (like FANCY or KINGDOM): build a scene or symbol that suggests the idea. No word is simply the name of a Minecraft block, item or mob.
